There's a bill in the Senate called the Clarity Act that would finally give US crypto companies a clear set of federal rules. It's been stuck for months. Now the White House has agreed to add an ethics rule to it, hoping to get it moving again.
The provision itself is what changed. Several Senate Democrats had specifically demanded ethics rules — partly over concerns about officials and their families holding crypto investments — before they'd back the bill at all. Reporters are calling the White House agreeing to those demands a genuine breakthrough, not just another round of talks.
Does this actually get the Clarity Act to a vote? An ethics deal removes one specific objection, not every objection — the bill has cleared procedural hurdles before without reaching the Senate floor, and crypto traders have learned not to raise prices in anticipation of a vote until one is actually scheduled.
