The test scores aren't the real story here — the release date is. Moonshot could have kept this model locked up and charged people to use it. Instead, they're giving the whole thing away for free. That one choice means no government can ever block this technology at the border, because there's nothing left to block — anyone, anywhere, can just download it.

Take the test-score rankings with a grain of salt. They measure what actual developers preferred in blind comparisons, which is real, but narrow — a model can win at coding while quietly falling short somewhere no test measures, like safety or reliability. There's also an open dispute worth knowing about: Anthropic has accused Moonshot and other Chinese AI labs of training their models by copying huge amounts of output from American models. That accusation hasn't been settled, and it's worth remembering the companies making it have their own reasons to want it to be true.
